The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has launched the nomination process for aspirants seeking the party ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election in Nyandarua County.

In a notice dated April 26, 2026, the party announced that nominations will be conducted on Saturday, May 9, 2026, following the declaration of a vacancy in the position of Member of the National Assembly for Ol Kalou Constituency. Interested candidates have been directed to apply through the UDA party portal.

UDA said the registration period will run from Monday, April 27, 2026, to Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Applicants must first register on the portal, after which the system will prompt payment of the nomination fee via M-Pesa STK push. The party emphasized that registration will only be considered complete upon successful submission of both the application and payment.

The party further reminded public officers intending to vie for the seat that they must resign from their positions on or before April 30, 2026, in line with electoral requirements.

Nomination fees have been set at KSh250,000 for general applicants and KSh125,000 for women, youth, and persons with disabilities. The fees are non-refundable.

The nomination exercise follows an announcement by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

In a notice issued on April 26, 2026, the commission said preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and credible election, with voters expected to elect a new representative to the National Assembly.

The Ol Kalou seat fell vacant following the death of area MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

His death was confirmed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who conveyed the news to Members of Parliament and the parliamentary fraternity.

Kiaraho had served as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency since 2013 and was in his third term at the time of his death, having first been elected during the 2013 General Election.
