President William Ruto launched a sharp attack against his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, on Monday, labeling the former president as ungrateful and deceitful during a development tour of Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties.
Addressing residents, President Ruto recounted his political backing for Kenyatta across four election cycles—in 2002, 2013, and twice in 2017—claiming he was repaid with betrayal when Kenyatta withheld support in the 2022 general election and has since begun campaigning against the current administration ahead of 2027.
"You are the most ungrateful person I have met. You are the most deceitful character I have met," Ruto said.
The President also warned opposition figures, accusing Kenyatta of orchestrating political deals with opposition leaders, including Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Focus on Development and 2027
Shifting to his administration's governance record, Ruto maintained that he has successfully cleaned up economic and structural challenges left behind by the previous administration, citing reforms in the education curriculum (CBC), national debt management, and economic stabilization.
Highlighting his achievements ahead of the 2027 polls, Ruto pointed to key government initiatives:
- Healthcare: The Social Health Authority (SHA) rollout covering 33 million Kenyans.
- Agriculture: Subsidized cheap fertilizer programs for farmers.
- Infrastructure: Ongoing nationwide projects spanning roads, affordable housing, markets, and rural power connectivity.
"If that election is about performance and track record, we are ready," Ruto stated.
The President was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen and Opiyo Wandayi, Governors Stephen Sang (Nandi) and Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), alongside a host of Members of Parliament.
