Students have lost their belonging after a massive fire destroyed a dormitory at Olbutyo Boys High School in Chepalungu Sub-County.
No calsulties have been reported in the Sunday evening incident that left a trail of extensive property damage.
locals reported seeing thick billows of smoke from the school and wails from students and uoon checking they found the facility which accommodates more than 100 students.
"At first, wr thought the smoke was out of waste being burnt but soon we heard alarms and call for help from students and that is when we realized it was not was we thought," said one of the residents who responded.
He said students attempted to salvage their belonging but it was too late.
The witness said many will be forced to sleep in the cold adding that the dormitory was the main facility that accommodated a huge number of students.
Local residents joined hands with school authorities and police in an attempt to out out the fire.
However their efforts were futile as lacknof water hampered their efforts.
The fire engine from the County disaster arrived at the scene after the fore had died down.
Stanley Mutai said their response tesm got the alert late and tried their best to reach the scene on time.
By the time the flames were brought under control, the targeted dormitory had been reduced to a charred frame.
Metal bed bunks were warped by the intense heat, and students lost all personal belongings, textbooks, and bedding stored in the building.
School administration officials and emergency personnel remain on-site conducting a comprehensive damage assessment and organizing temporary shelter arrangements for the affected students.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and local authorities have launched an investigation into the origin of the blaze.
