Nairobi, Kenya – President William Ruto has dismissed Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi in a major cabinet reshuffle announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Muturi, who had become a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, particularly over cases of abduction, was replaced by Hon. Geoffrey Ruku.
In an official statement issued by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on March 26, President Ruto nominated Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku to the cabinet, pending parliamentary approval.
Meanwhile, Hanna Wendot, widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, has been nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, The Arts, and Heritage. Wendot fills a position that had remained vacant after Parliament failed to approve the nomination of Stella Soi. Both Wendot and Ruku will undergo parliamentary vetting before assuming office.
In other changes, Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa has been moved to the Environment, Climate, and Forestry docket, swapping places with Aden Duale, who now takes over the Health Ministry.
The reshuffle has sparked widespread discussion among Kenyans, with many expressing little surprise at Muturi’s removal, given his previous criticism of the government.
President Ruto congratulated the nominees and wished them well as they prepare for the parliamentary approval process, emphasizing that the changes are part of his constitutional mandate to ensure effective governance and improved service delivery.
Analysts view the reshuffle as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the administration and driving Kenya’s socio-economic progress.
