How DCP Is Fracturing Mt Kenya Loyalty and Threatening Ruto’s 2027 Math
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Choice Party (DCP) has risen to become Kenya’s third most popular political party, overtaking Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party and Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party, according to the latest Infotrak poll released on December 28, 2025.
The survey places DCP at 6 percent popularity, behind the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at 23 percent and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 19 percent.
Jubilee follows closely with 5 percent, while Wiper trails at 4 percent.
DCP, the newest party among those ranked, was formed by Gachagua after his impeachment as Deputy President, which followed a bitter political fallout with President William Ruto.
Despite its recent launch, the party has gained strong support in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, a key political battleground that played a major role in Ruto’s victory in the 2022 presidential election.
Political analysts say DCP’s swift rise highlights Gachagua’s personal influence and strategic appeal in central Kenya, pointing to a possible reshaping of alliances and voter dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
