Bomet County, Kenya – In a major step toward climate resilience and economic empowerment, over 7,000 avocado seedlings were distributed to farmers in Silibwet Township and Singorwet wards as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to sustainable agriculture.

A total of 3,780 seedlings were issued to the Koyumi Community-Based Organization (CBO), which comprises more than 188 farmers from Silibwet Township ward.

An additional 3,270 seedlings were distributed to Mokito CBO, bringing together 109 farmers from across Singorwet ward.

The initiative is part of the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, a joint venture between the Government of Kenya and the World Bank. The program aims to strengthen climate adaptation efforts at the grassroots level while boosting farmers' livelihoods through agribusiness opportunities.

To support the success of the program, a team of Agricultural Extension Officers has been deployed to offer technical guidance and ensure the proper nurturing and growth of the seedlings on the farmers’ plots.

“We are committed to seeing this initiative thrive,” said the presiding official. “Beyond economic benefits, this program is a strategic intervention in our fight against the adverse effects of climate change.”

Deputy Governor Shadrack Rotich and Members of County Assembly—Ann Mutai (Silibwet Township), Josphat Kurgat (Singorwet), Dancel Kirui (Ndarawetta), and Leonard Rotich (Chesoen)—were present during the issuance exercise, lending their support and emphasizing the County Government’s commitment to climate-smart agriculture.

The FLLoCA program continues to gain momentum across counties, proving to be a vital tool in strengthening resilience, improving food security, and promoting sustainable land use practices.
